Entry visas

FOR EU COUNTRIES CITIZENS

In accordance with the Schengen agreement, citizens of the countries that have signed the agreement are entitled to free movement within the Schengen area. For all citizens of these countries Italian entry visa is not required. The following countries are part of the Schengen agreement:

Belgium France Germany Luxembourg Netherlands Monaco

Portugal Spain Italy Austria Greece Denmark Finland

Sweden Iceland Norway Slovenia Estonia Latvia Lithuania

Poland Czech Republic Slovakia Hungary  Malta Switzerland

Liechtenstein

FOR CITIZENS FROM COUNTRIES THAT ARE NOT PART OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY

Among non-European countries there are some that have signed special agreements with the European Community or directly with Italy. The citizens of these countries do not required visa for short stay of up to 90 days for purposes of tourist visit, special mission, business invitation and sport events participation. The group of such countries including the following:

Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, South Korea, Costa Rica, Croatia, East Timor, Salvador, Japan, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Monte Negro, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Romania, Samoa, Serbia, Singapore, United States, Uruguay, Vanatau, Venezuela

Citizens of all other countries are obliged to apply for a Schengen entry visa, even in cases of short stays up to 90 days. The responsibility for the issuing of visas is with the Italian Embassies and Consulates.

For all other purposes/activities different from tourism, special mission, business and sports competition, all citizens from countries outside of European Union are required to apply for entry visa.

TYPES OF ENTRY VISAS

There are several types of visas:

Adoption, Airport Transit, Business, Diplomacy, Elective residence, Family reasons, Family reunification, Holidays-job, Invitation, Job, Religious grounds, Re-entry, Medical care, Seasonal Employment, Self Employment, Sport competition, Special mission, Study, Transit, Transport, Tourism.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF REJECTION OF THE ENTRY VISA?

The rejection of the entry visa may be appealed to the Administrative Court within 60 days from the day of the notification of the rejection act.

Just in case of negation or rejection of the entry visa for family reasons or family reunification the foreigner may appeal, without limit of time, to the Ordinary Court.
